Life Skills Through Gardening

Part of the women’s program offers life skill classes, and our volunteer, Shiley Miller, has led one. She has worked with the women for the last couple of years in gardening and our greenhouse. Weekly, it has been worked and loved on by each of our residents with the teaching and guidance of Shiley. One of our residents also wanted to do mushrooms, so Shiley also worked with her on that (photo also attached). Shiley will often close the gardening class by making homemade pesto, roasted tomatoes with Burrata cheese, or some other delicious healthy dish with the women to share. Shiley will also often discuss a quote – to teach and be talked through as a life lesson. She reaches our women on a heart level while they rebuild their lives.
